Shopify · Agent-readiness audit

Can AI shopping agents buy from your store?

Cartable reads the public pages an agent actually fetches and scores your Shopify store from 0 to 100. You see which of the 13 checks failed, why, and the theme code to fix them.

Free. About 15 seconds. No account and no app install. One add-to-cart at most. We never check out.

01 — How it works

Three steps. No app install.

Built for the person who owns the store, and for the agency who has to fix the theme. The audit is the same either way.

  1. 1

    Paste a domain

Any public store. No login, no Shopify app, no tag on the theme. The checks are written for Shopify; other platforms still get a report, with the Shopify-only checks marked failed.

  2. 2

We fetch what an agent fetches

About 13 requests, spaced out: homepage, robots.txt, sitemap, catalog, one product, policy pages, and a single add-to-cart. We never open checkout.

  3. 3

    You get a punch list

A score out of 100, every check marked passed, partial, or failed, and the fixes ordered by the points they return. Snippets are there to copy.

02 — The 13 checks

What “agent-ready” means here.

Each check has a weight. A partial pass counts for part of that weight. The score is the weighted result, divided by 106, times 100, rounded.

Discover

32 points. Can an agent find the catalog at all?

01

robots.txt lets AI agents reach products

15 pts

GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, and CCBot are not disallowed from product URLs. Cart, checkout, and account can stay closed. A missing robots.txt scores half, not zero.

02

/llms.txt is present and written for this store

2 pts

A short markdown file at /llms.txt. Shopify’s auto-generated default scores half. A custom file scores full. Missing, or an HTML page at that URL, scores zero.

03

XML sitemap lists products

7 pts

The sitemap named in robots.txt, or /sitemap.xml, loads and includes product URLs. A sitemap with no product URLs scores half.

04

Shopify catalog feed is readable

8 pts

/products.json returns products. Agents use this when the theme HTML is awkward to parse.

Read

53 points. Can it read price, availability, and policies without running the theme?

05

Per-product JSON

7 pts

/products/<handle>.js returns variants for a real product. We prefer one that is in stock and not a gift card.

06

Product JSON-LD

15 pts

The product page includes Product schema with price, currency, availability, SKU or GTIN, image, and brand. Each of those is an equal slice of this check.

07

Readable without JavaScript

12 pts

The product name, a price, and an add-to-cart control are in the raw HTML. Many agents do not run theme JavaScript.

08

Open Graph product tags

5 pts

og:title, og:image, og:price:amount, og:price:currency, and og:type=product.

09

Shipping and return terms agents can read

8 pts

A shipping page and a returns page exist, and the product schema includes MerchantReturnPolicy and shippingDetails. Pages alone are half of this check.

10

Organization and WebSite schema

6 pts

The homepage JSON-LD names the business and the site. Each half is its own points.

Buy

21 points. Can it put one unit in a session cart?

11

Add to cart

10 pts

POST /cart/add.js accepts one unit of one variant. We never continue to checkout. A 422 scores partial. A block, or no Shopify endpoint, scores zero.

12

Fast, light product HTML

6 pts

Half the points are response time, half are HTML weight. Under about 800ms and 300KB scores full. Slower than 2 seconds, or heavier than 800KB, scores zero on that half.

13

No bot wall

5 pts

The homepage and the product page return the store, not a CAPTCHA or an interstitial challenge.

Field note · 14 October 2026

81% of 52 top Shopify brands don’t tell AI agents their return or shipping terms.

42 of 52. That count is from our audit that day. A footer link a person can click is not the same thing as return and shipping terms an agent can read on the product. The check above is the one that looks for both.

This is a finding from our audit, not a customer count. We are not publishing the brand list here.

03 — Pricing

Free to see the problem. $49 to get the code.

Agencies: one Fix Pack per store. There is no bundle price. Checkout is not open yet, so the buy buttons explain that instead of charging you.

04 — Questions

Before you paste a URL.

What does the score measure?

It is a weighted average of 13 public checks, scaled to 100. The checks ask whether an AI shopping agent can find your products, read price, availability, and policies, and add one item to a session cart. Weights are listed on each check and sum to 106. The score is not a certification and not a ranking against other stores.

Will this place an order or edit my theme?

No. The audit requests public pages and, when the store allows it, adds one unit of one variant to a session cart. It never opens checkout, never pays, and never changes your theme. Fix Pack code is something you install yourself.

Does it only work on Shopify?

You can submit any public store URL. The catalog feed, per-product JSON, and cart/add.js checks are Shopify-specific. If Shopify is not detected, those checks fail and the report says so.

How long does an audit take?

About 10 to 15 seconds. The server makes roughly 13 requests, with a short pause between them: the homepage, robots.txt, llms.txt, the sitemap, the catalog, one product, and the policy pages, plus one add-to-cart. The pause is there so the audit stays polite.

What is free, and what do the paid plans include?

The audit is free: the score, every check, why it passed or failed, and generic snippets when the public page gives us enough to draft one. The Fix Pack is 49 US dollars once: Liquid snippets for your store, product and return and shipping schema, Open Graph price tags, Organization and WebSite schema, a custom llms.txt with test products filtered, and a step-by-step install PDF. Monitor is 19 US dollars a month: a weekly re-check of the same product, alerts if schema, robots, or cart breaks, and a score trend with regenerated fixes. Checkout is not open yet.

Where does the 81% figure come from?

It is our count from 14 October 2026: 42 of 52 top Shopify brands do not tell AI agents their return or shipping terms. It is a finding from that audit, not a customer statistic. A policy page a person can click is not the same as return and shipping terms an agent can read on the product.

Do you store my URL or my email?

There is no account. The site does not set analytics cookies. On the hosted site, an audit response for the same URL may be cached at the edge for about an hour. Rate limiting, six audits per ten minutes per IP, is held in memory on the function. If you submit an email, we log it with the store name so we can follow up. See the privacy page for how to ask us to delete it.

Can an agency use this for client stores?

Yes. The free audit is the same tool. The Fix Pack is priced per store. There is no agency plan and no bundle price.

The audit failed, or I was rate limited.

Six audits are allowed per ten minutes from one IP, and a URL without a domain returns an error. If the store rate-limits or blocks the fetch, the report says the score is inconclusive instead of treating a bot wall as a failed theme. Wait briefly and try again.

05 — Privacy

What the audit touches.

It reads public pages of the URL you submit. When the store allows it, it adds one unit of one product to a session cart. It does not check out, pay, create an account, or edit the theme.

If you leave an email, we keep it with the store name so we can follow up. We don’t sell addresses, and this site doesn’t set analytics cookies. The longer version is on the privacy page.
